Commodity Components is proud to announce the opening of our enhanced quality testing and inspection laboratory in Danvers, MA. This new state-of-the-art facility will include all new testing and inspection equipment, ESD, ISO certifications, and is staffed by Commodity Components technicians trained in counterfeit avoidance. Internal services will include XRF testing on-reel XRAY, baking, decapsulation and high resolution magnification analysis.

Our industry leading ISO certified processes include an Approved Vendor Program, RoHS certifications, multi-point inspection and testing processes, external inspection resources, and ongoing employee training.

Inspection and Testing

Inspection, testing, and general counterfeit avoidance are critical to quality products and continued world class service to our customers. At Commodity Components, we utilize a multi-step ISO based program to ensure that all shipments from our warehouses undergo the most stringent process available. Our trained technicians utilize the following general format with all orders shipped from Commodity Components.

All inspection and testing at Commodity Components is documented in our product evaluation program and saved in our databases. This includes images, test reports, and corresponding notes. Product irregularities are analyzed for root cause by the Warehouse and Management personnel during weekly meetings.

Commodity Components quality control technicians are cross trained in all facets of the product evaluation process including the operation of all counterfeit avoidance equipment. This includes training from the equipment manufacturer on the Nisene component de-cap system, Creative Electron reel to reel X-Ray system, V-Tek tape and reel system, Shellab baking oven and Olympus Innov-x XRF gun. This equipment training is reinforced by the daily usage of all equipment when processing receipts and shipments.

The technicians have also been trained in AS9120 (US locations), ISO 14001:2015 (US locations), ANSI/ESD S20.20 (US locations) and counterfeit avoidance standards. Our technicians attend CCAW training seminars to keep up the in lastest counterfeit avoidance techniques.

They also receive ERAI briefings when related to the identification of counterfeit product.

Our ongoing training and development plan, which includes continuous and open two way communication, ensures that each member of our staff is competent and capable of playing a key role in our best-in-class quality programs.

As a leading distributor of electronic components, it is critical that we establish and maintain stringent standards with respect to our base of approved vendors. Our ISO certifications mandate that we continually evaluate our vendor base to ensure that our quality programs reflect today’s supply chain challenges.

Our six (6) tiered Vendor Approval Program ranks our suppliers according to the following criteria. All vendors are categorized and documented in our database as part of the quality program.

The Approved Vendor Program is consistently reviewed by the Quality Department in cooperation with management and warehouse personnel. Movement within our tiered program may take place as a result of the following vendor actions:

  • A supplier non-conformance based on product reliability or integrity
  • Change in quality status relative to RoHS, ESD and/or ISO
  • Completion of the years of vendor history structure noted above
  • Industry or franchise reports involving a vendor’s overall quality
  • Any outstanding payment or accounting issues
  • Shipping of counterfeit products or multiple irregularities in product quality will result in indefinite Level F status

AS9120 Supplier Requirements

  • The supplier must notify CCI of all nonconforming product and obtain CCI approval for nonconforming product disposition.
  • Notify CCI of changes in product and/or process definition, changes of suppliers, changes of manufacturing facility location and where required, obtain CCI approval and flow down to the supply chain the applicable requirements including customer requirements.
  • Record retention requirements of 7 years.
  • Right of access by CCI, the customer and regulatory authorities to the applicable areas of all facilities at any level of the supply chain involved in the order and to all applicable records.
  • Requirements for a certificate of conformity, test reports and/or airworthiness certificates as applicable.
  • The organization shall ensure the adequacy of requirements prior to their communication to the external provider.
  • The organization shall communicate to external providers its requirements for:
    • the processes, products, and services to be provided including the identification of relevant technical data (e.g., specifications, drawings, process requirements, work instructions)
    • the approval of:
      • products and services
      • methods, processes, and equipment
      • the release of products and services
    • competence, including any required qualification of persons;
    • the external providers’ interactions with the organization
    • control and monitoring of the external providers’ performance to be applied by the organization
    • verification or validation activities that the organization, or its customer, intends to perform at the external providers’ premises; g. test, inspection, and verification;
    • the use of statistical techniques for product acceptance and related instructions for acceptance by the organization
    • the need to: − implement a quality management system; − use customer-designated or approved external providers, including process sources (e.g., special processes); − notify the organization of nonconforming processes, products, or services and obtain approval for their disposition; − prevent the use of suspected unapproved, unapproved, and counterfeit parts − notify the organization of changes to processes, products, or services, including changes of their external providers or location of manufacture; − flow down to external providers applicable requirements including customer requirements; − provide a certificate of conformity, test reports, or authorized release certificate, as applicable; − retain documented information, including retention periods and disposition requirements
    • the right of access by the organization, their customer, and regulatory authorities to the applicable areas of facilities and to applicable documented information, at any level of the supply chain
    • ensuring that persons are aware of: − their contribution to product or service conformity; − their contribution to product safety; − the importance of ethical behavior

Suspect/Counterfeit Parts Policy

  • CCI reserves the right to retain and quarantine any/all suspected counterfeit parts that it receives from the seller on this purchase order. Suspect counterfeit parts may be forwarded to the original component manufacturer and/or the appropriate government authorities for final analysis, confiscation and/or destruction. If products furnished by the seller are determined to be counterfeit, the seller agrees to reimburse CCI for the full purchase price as well as shipping charges and 3rd party testing charges incurred by CCI.
  • CCI defines Suspect counterfeit parts as : Unauthorized copies of a product, a part defined by the mfg. part number identification, date code and logo in which the materials used or the performance of the product has changed without notice by someone other than the original mfg. of the product. A substandard part misrepresented by the seller. Products that have been black topped, remarked or otherwise fraudulently altered and/or misrepresented by a 3rd party. The seller must be compliant to AS5553 and comply with all requests that flow down from CCI specific to AS5553 as well as all other requirements.
